The English Chamber Choir

… who sing and practise regularly at St Andrew-by-the-Wardrobe

Who are we?

The English Chamber Choir is, as its name implies, a medium-sized group of around 40 singers. It prides itself on the diversity both of its repertoire and of the engagements it undertakes. The Choir’s concert repertoire ranges from early polyphony to contemporary works, and also embraces the many baroque and classical works with orchestra that are appropriate to its size. It also undertakes recordings of more commercial music – CD albums, film sound–tracks and advertising jingles. Most of its work is in or around London, with occasional forays further afield and abroad.

The Choir membership includes people of all ages and from many varied walks of life. Currently our oldest members are in their early sixties and our youngest their early twenties. The rest are pretty evenly distributed in–between. There is a strong representation of the traditional professions – law, accountancy, education, the Civil Service – together with the newer field of IT consultancy and a wide variety of individual skills, including a restaurateur, a horticultural expert, a wine merchant and a couple of artists. Many developed their interest in singing while at university and several were choral scholars (especially those from Oxbridge).

More information about the choir can be found on our website www.englishchamberchoir.com.
